When You Renovate A Grump – A Heartwarming Book Review

Introduction

Hi, 🙋🏼‍♀️ Bookworm buddies! I hope you’re all doing well. Today, I am reviewing my first-ever ARC book 🥳. When You Renovate A Grump is a book written by Lia Huni. Thank you to Lia Huni ❤️ for providing the ARC copy of this book. You can check out her Instagram here.

I liked this book. It is a closed-door romance, so you don’t have to worry about the spice; there are only a few kisses. This is book 6 in the Rotheberg series but can be read as a standalone. I liked the humour in this book.

So let’s start with the When You Renovate A Grump review.

Royalty, Renovations, and a Roadmap for Love
Life as a princess had its perks, but Andi Feltz gave them up when she walked away from the Freiberg royal family. Determined to succeed on her own, she heads to the quirky little town of Rotheberg, Oregon, to start over. She takes a job as an assistant to a high-strung interior designer. Then she finds out their new client is the man who saved her from an embarrassing situation in London and her brother’s newest pal.

Reece Turner has one goal: renovate his fixer-upper and flip it fast. But when his best friend’s spirited, strong-willed sister shows up as part of the design team, his plans-and his peace of mind-take a hit. Andi’s charm might be impossible to resist, but crossing the line with her could spell disaster for both his business and his friendships.
Caught between family interference and a little too much chemistry, Andi and Reece find themselves in a battle of wits, wills, and hearts. Can they build something lasting together, or will their foundation crack under the pressure?

With humour, heart, and a dash of small-town charm, this clean romantic comedy will have you rooting for love, laughter, and a happily ever after.

My review

I am reviewing this book using the CAWPILE Rating System. Please visit the CAWPILE Rating System page to learn more about this system. So, let’s start with the When You Renovate A Grump book review.

Character: (9/10)

All the characters were good and wholesome. Andi and Reece were a good pair, and I liked Andi’s character because she was so fun, trouble-causing and rebellious. We can see the struggles of Andi living like a commoner and regretting her not-so-thought-out decision to live a life as an independent individual.

“Is this how all commoners live? Paycheck to paycheck with no hope for a brighter future?”

Reece’s character was your grumpy guy who would only smile at his girl kinda type. Another character in the book that I liked is Hans, he was such a mood 😂 Is there any book on him? I would love to read it. And if there is not, I request the author to write it asap 😂.

Atmosphere/Setting: (9/10)

The setting for the book was good. We can experience the tourist places of London as Andi travels there and meets Reece there. From there we get to the small town of Rotheberg, Oregon. And lastly, we get to see the Palace of Freiberg.

Writing style: (10/10)

I liked the writing style. As mentioned above, I liked the humour of this book. The descriptions of places were written very well that you feel you are there. The descriptions of London, the Palace of Freiberg, etc were written like I am also there with the characters.

Plot: (6/10)

It is a sweet story of a former princess and a grumpy stranger she met in London who rescued her from bad people, and then they went into their path. So what are the chances that they will meet again in a small town named Rotheberg, Oregon, to renovate a house together? It is a sweet, simple and light story that you can read to get a break after a heavy plot-twisty book. It is a comforting story where you don’t have to worry much about any plot twists.

Intrigue: (8/10)

It is a comfort read where you can keep your tensions away and just enjoy the book.

Logic: (8/10)

I liked it when Andi regretted her decision to completely walk out from her royal family to live as an independent individual. I will share some quotes to describe what I am saying.

“Over the last few weeks, I’ve come to realize going solo isn’t the same as being independent. That accepting help from family and friends – even family you don’t like so much – can get you a lot farther than trying to accomplish everything by yourself.”

“The realization that accepting help isn’t a weakness but strength hits like a blinding light.”

There is a small spoiler ahead⚠️, so read at your own risk. It would have been cool to get to see Andi starting her art business and Reece helping her with that.

Enjoyment: (10/10)

I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the funny interactions between Andi and Reece.

“Is that supposed to be a joke? He has a very dry delivery”

“I’ve spent enough time with my sister to know when a woman uses that tone, it’s better not to suggest… well, anything. At least not without a rock-solid reason. And even then, it’s risky.”

I also enjoyed the interactions between Reece and his parents.

“I am an idiot.” I pick up my paint roller. Dad’s response comes fast. “Not gonna argue.”

The whole aspect of the renovation was also cool.

Final Rating: 51/70 (7.2)

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Conclusion

In conclusion, I enjoyed this book and would recommend this book to my bookish friends who enjoy a sweet story with a few kisses and good humour.
