Unravelling the Mysteries in “Good Girl Bad Blood” by Holly Jackson || Book Review

Introduction

“Good Girl Bad Blood,” Holly Jackson’s compelling sequel, takes readers on another thrilling journey into the world of amateur sleuth Pip Fitz-Amobi. This book was a pleasure to read. I was unable to put the book down once I started reading it. I used to slip away to read the book every two or three minutes.

This post is about book review of Good Girl Bad Blood

Pip Fitz-Amobi is not a detective anymore. Her true crime podcast about the murder case she solved last year has gone viral. Yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her. But she will have to go back on her word when someone close to her goes missing and the police can’t do anything about it. If they don’t investigate, then Pip will, uncovering more of her town’s dark secrets along the way. But will she find answers before time runs out?

My Review

I will be reviewing this book in the CAWPILE rating system. Please visit the CAWPILE rating system page to learn more about this system. So let’s start the book review of Good Girl Bad Blood.

Characters: 9/10

The characters were well-developed. Characters are the same as in the previous novel, just adding one or two new characters. Pip is a well-developed character although when she can’t control her anger I didn’t understand her behaviour at that point. Ravi as always was a great companion to Pip and tried to show her path when she felt lost. Cara was very supportive as well.

I liked the pair of Pip and Ravi where they help each other in the thought process during the whole mystery. I liked the friendship of Pip and Cara. It was wholesome. I liked Connor as well. And I found Ant and Lauren annoying—how can they behave in such a way when their friends are having difficulties? This means the author’s purpose to make them annoying is achieved lol!

Atmosphere/Setting: 10/10

I liked the atmosphere of the book. The story is set in a little town named Little Kliton. This story has similar characters and locations as the first novel.

Writing style: 10/10

The pacing is excellent, with each chapter revealing new evidence and raising the stakes. The story’s inclusion of case notes, illustrations, and audio clips from interviews appealed to me. The third-person point of view is used throughout the book.

Plot: 10/10

The plot is about a teenage girl who solved a cold case murder mystery in the past and rose to fame for it. Her recent podcast about the case has increased her fame, but she is not feeling well after what happened to her while solving the mystery, so she decides she is done with her detective days until a childhood friend contacts her with a problem—his brother is missing. What will happen next? Will she assist her friend in finding his brother? And what additional secrets will come to light along the way if she lends a hand?

Intrigue: 9/10

I was intrigued by the first page of the book. The story continues from the previous book and we get a sneak peek at how everyone is living their lives after the case is solved I liked that because it was a kind of reminder of the whole story of the previous book so you don’t have to read the summary for remembering the previous book. The twist in the end was amazing.

Logic: 9/10

I didn’t understand the behavior of Pip when she suddenly lost her cool but other than that I liked every part of the book.

Enjoyment: 10/10

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the third one ASAP. After I saw so many posts regarding this book on Instagram I was intrigued and it turned out to be a great book.

Final Rating: 67/70 (9.5)

                        Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In conclusion, I like this book and would suggest it to my other bookish friends who enjoy mysteries with little to no romance. Do keep checking back for my review of the third book in the series, which I am eager to finish.

Recommended If: You liked the Truly Devious Trilogy By Maureen Johnson.
