My High School Fake Boyfriend by Kylie Key Book Review | A Sweet Fake Dating Romance

Introduction

Today, I am writing a review for “My High School Fake Boyfriend” by Kylie Key. I read this book a long time ago and wrote its review in my diary, so I thought, let’s bring this review here. I loved it. It was such a cute high school love story. And dealing with situations like insecurities, etc.

I was disappointed that it ended because I wanted to read more about Maddie and Peyton. It was such a good read after you have read some intense thrillers. You can follow her on Instagram here.

He was supposed to be a fake boyfriend…
Maddie
Getting dumped by text? Brutal.
Watching Josh show off his new girlfriend in the cafeteria? Even worse.
So I can’t wait to give him payback.
Dating the new boy—his cross country rival—seems like the perfect way to get revenge.
Peyton’s shy and he’s self conscious about the birthmark on his face. But he’s sweet, funny and I think I’m falling…for real.

Peyton
New school. New town. Same old stares.
My birthmark has always made it hard to fit in.
So when Maddie asks me to the Homecoming Dance,
I start to think maybe things are different here in River Valley.
She’s smart, fearless, and makes me believe in fairy tales—
that a kiss could make me a prince.
I always thought of myself as the Beast.
But there’s one thing I forgot:
Beauty falls for the Beast…
And they live happily ever after.

My Review

I will be reviewing this book in the CAWPILE rating system. To know more about the CAWPLIE rating system, check out this page.

Characters: (10/10)

I really liked Maddie and Peyton as a couple as well as individuals. Maddie was a confident, tall, and great at sports girl. And Peyton was a shy, introverted boy, mostly because of a birthmark on his face. It was good to see the issue being brought up that appearance should not matter much, but you have to see the person. Maddie uses Peyton to make her ex jealous. And when her bestie accidentally tells the truth to Peyton.

Maddie, instead of being angry with her best friend, accepts that it was her fault for using Peyton. And that shows the maturity of Maddie, which I quite like because as a highschooler its hard to see that maturity. And Peyton, gosh, I wanted to hug that boy because he was so insecure about his looks that even after having won the race, he chose to be hidden.

Atmosphere: (10/10)

It was a cute story set in a small town. And having only one school, River Valley High and it was nice to see that the town people wholeheartedly accepted new members, that is, Peyton and his Uncle Luke.

Writing: (10/10)

The writing was quite good of this book. And there were sometimes laughable moments which I really liked.

Plot: (10/10)

It was a good plot. Maddie is devastated after her Ex Josh, dumps her via text and starts to date the famous girl in school, Rebecca. So to take revenge on him, Maddie decides to go Homecoming dance with Peyton, who just won a cross-country race against Josh. And Peyton, with his purple monstrosity, aka Birthmark on the face, is shocked when Maddie asks him out. And in that dance, Maddie realises her mistake, but it was too late because Peyton gets to know the truth. After that, Maddie apologises to Peyton, but will Peyton forgive her?

Intrigue: (10/10)

I was quite intrigued by the book. I didn’t for a second lose my interest. So it was good.

Logic: (10/10)

It was a short and sweet story. There was nothing like that where it requires your logic.

Enjoyment: (10/10)

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to all readers who love short and sweet stories and are reminded of their teenage love.

Final Rating: 70/70 (10)

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Conclusion

In conclusion, I loved this book and would recommend it to those who love quick and sweet stories about teenage love.
