Introduction
Hello, Bookworm Buddies, I completed the second book of the Inheritance Games Series, “The Hawthorne Legacy” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. And I loved it more than the first one. If you haven’t checked the review of the first book, go check it out now.
What’s with me and liking the second book in the series I read? I don’t know 🤷🏻♀️ It happened in the past, also, with the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series, you can check out my review.
And the small complaint that I had in the first book was solved in the second book. It provided the high stakes and the adventure that were missing in the first book. And the mystery of Avery and her father was so thrilling and so good.
So, without further ado, let’s start the book review.

About The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Intrigue, riches, and romance abound in this thrilling sequel to the beloved bestselling The Inheritance Games
The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions—including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture—by any means necessary.
With nonstop action, aspirational jet-setting, Knives Out-like family intrigue, swoonworthy romance, and billions of dollars hanging in the balance, The Hawthorne Legacy will thrill Jennifer Lynn Barnes fans and new readers alike.
My Review
I will be reviewing this book in the CAWPILE rating system. To know more about the CAWPLIE rating system, check out this page.
Character: (10/10)
The characters are the same as in the first book. I also adored every character, their various reasons for playing the game, and their roles in it. The complexity of the characters, like not one character’s past or story was normal or simple. Everything was complicated about the past of the senior characters, that is, Toby, Skye, Zara, Avery’s Mom and also the fathers of the Hawthorne brothers, and especially Tobias Hawthorne and I loved reading about that.
I love this thing about series, you get to see the unfolding of different layers of the characters and what led them to make the decisions they made.
Atmosphere: (10/10)
This time, we get out of the Hawthorne House a little and get to explore different locations of the Tobias Hawthorne property, as well as Hawthorne Island. It was wonderful to see different places, and I hope I can get or build so many properties in so many different places.😍
Writing: (10/10)
Writing as usual, like the first one was amazing. I like short chapters, and it had that, so the pacing of the book was fast. It was nothing complex; anyone can read it. The puzzles and riddles were not that complicated.
As Jenny from “The Righter of Words” pointed out, we can’t solve the entire mystery by looking for small hints; instead, you have to watch it play out. You discover things as Avery does.
Plot: (10/10)
I liked the plot of this very much. The whole mystery around Toby was incredible, and everything connected to it was mind-blowing and complicated. We carry forward the story from book one and find clues and solve the mystery regarding if toby is alive or not.
I felt like I was watching a movie, and scene by scene, in this case, chapter by chapter, we were uncovering the stories and mysteries of Toby and his siblings and whatever happened in the past that led Tobias Hawthorne to name his will to Avery. And I agree with Jenny from “The Righter of Words” that the last act of this story was awesome.
Intrigue: (10/10)
I was intrigued the whole book and excited to start the final one in this series. I don’t want this to end 😭 but also want to reveal the final mystery, which I think we have solved in this book, but who knows, there is something left which I missed and is left to be solved.
Logic: (10/10)
The whole book was written smartly, and the mystery connected well together with all the clues. There was nothing that I would want to change in this book.
Enjoyment: (10/10)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am waiting to read the final book.
Final Rating: 70/70 (10)
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
