The Final Gambit by Jennifer Lynn Barnes Book Review | A Thrilling Conclusion to The Inheritance Games

Introduction

Hello, Bookworm Buddies, finally, I read the last book of the Inheritance Games Series. The Final Gambit was the perfect end of the series; anyone could get. If you thought Toby’s family tree was complicated from the second book, then this book will blow your mind. I loved this book and would like to continue reading other books in this series.

I will give some spoilers from both books, given that you have read the first two books. Check out my review for both books: The Inheritance Games and The Hawthorne Legacy.

So, without further ado, let’s start the book review!

My Review

I will be reviewing this book in the CAWPILE rating system. To know more about the CAWPLIE rating system, check out this page.

Character: (10/10)

I really liked the character development of all the characters. Especially, Avery, I had read reviews of the first two books, and some of them mentioned that Avery was not capable of solving mysteries on her own; she always needs help from hawthorne brothers, that she is not a strong character. But in this book, after seeing the progress of Avery, I understood why Avery was like that in the first two books.

If you imagine yourself in her position, she came from nowhere, and the Hawthorne brothers had always played the games of the old man. So, of course, they will know immediately what the clue is about or how to solve the mystery. Even if you are intelligent, you take some time to notice the patterns and clues to solve such mysteries. So I liked Avery’s character in this a lot.

Also, there was a huge development in Jameson. I did not like him much in the first two books, but now I like him. All other characters were also very good. And I really liked the “Found Family” vibes in this book. How everyone helped to solve the last mystery and protected each other, I loved that.

Atmosphere: (10/10)

The atmosphere of this book was tense. Because of the whole kidnapping situation and the whole mystery-solving to get the kidnapped person back.

Writing: (10/10)

As usual, I liked the short chapters and fast pacing of this book. I agree with  Jenny from “The Righter of Words” that the scene of chess matches should have been longer, but overall, it was a great scene.

Plot: (10/10)

I really liked the plot of this book. It was more intense and high-stakes than the first two books. Finally, Avery is close to hitting the one-year mark at Hawthorne House, and she will inherit Tobias Hawthorne’s fortune, but before that, someone comes to her door, and with that, the final mystery begins. This time, Avery has to be quick, or she will be in danger.

Intrigue: (10/10)

I was intrigued the whole time, and I was really sad that it was coming to an end😔. Also, I completely misunderstood who Avery would go with, and it was a surprise to me 🫢.

Logic: (10/10)

The mysteries, clues and complicated family trees were mind-blowing. It was truly a complicated read. And the puzzles and riddles were so good 🤌🏻.

Enjoyment: (10/10)

I really enjoyed this book and this series, and now I am craving more books like this.

Final Rating: 70/70 (10)

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Conclusion

In conclusion, I enjoyed this book and would recommend my bookish friends who love YA mysteries. And I am excited to read more books in this series. So stay tuned for the review of the next books in this series.
